Over the next three years, more than one thousand jobs will become available with nbn’s delivery partners to support the rollout of nbn fibre upgrades.

The digital backbone of Australia, the nbn® network is constantly evolving as we strive to lift the digital capability of the nation.

To help with this evolution and meet the increasing demand for faster and more reliable internet, construction businesses and individual workers are being called on to play an integral role, working for nbn’s delivery partners in upgrading the nbn network.

Help deliver fibre upgrades

nbn's fibre upgrade program, which was boosted by the Australian Government’s recent announcement of an additional $2.4 billion investment, has been designed to enable up to 3.5 million eligible* premises to access the fastest and most reliable technology available through the nbn network.

And the rollout of fibre across the country to support this program continues at pace.

Through our delivery partners, nbn is responsible for the planning, design and construction of fibre into suburbs and townships across Australia, which includes making ready telecommunications infrastructure, hauling, splicing and testing to enable customers to upgrade their connection to a full-fibre service.

Across more than 800 suburbs, construction activities are underway to bring full fibre deeper into communities for customers.

Every week, more than 500 kilometres of fibre optic cables are being hauled, spliced and tested to give customers the opportunity to upgrade their service and enjoy the benefits of a faster and more reliable broadband service.#

A thousand new opportunities

Complementing nbn’s field workforce and our valued delivery partners’ existing teams, more than one thousand new job opportunities will become available with nbn’s delivery partners over the next two and a half years as we push fibre deeper into many communities across Australia.

The new roles will work directly for nbn’s current delivery partners and will be involved in making ready telecommunications infrastructure through new civil works covering approximately 7,000 kilometres, as well as rolling out more than 65,000 kilometres of optical fibre – nearly one and a half times the circumference of the Earth.

A wide range of roles

A range of specialisations are needed across nbn’s delivery partners including:

  • drill operators
  • civil construction workers
  • fibre haulers and splicers
  • general labourers
  • vacuum truck operators

To help upgrade the nbn network over the coming years, we are proud that nbn's delivery partners will have the opportunity to make more of their roles available to more people Australia-wide.

In addition to enabling the creation of new roles in our cities, this important national infrastructure upgrade will aid the delivery of further jobs and an economic boost, with an important money multiplier effect to regional areas.

Training for new through to seasoned professionals

Appropriate training and support will be provided by nbn’s delivery partners.

Depending on the role specialisation, skill level and accreditation, opportunities exist for seasoned professionals, those interested in returning to the field, school leavers and people looking to learn new skills that will help set them up for a rewarding career in telecommunications and infrastructure development.
