nbn™ Fixed Wireless network: Enabling a connected country

I have heard from a number of people who have recently moved their phone and internet services over to fixed wireless technology over the nbn™ network, and I want to share with you some of their feedback.

Here at nbn, we often talk about the importance of “bridging the digital divide between the city and country”.

To do this, we are working to build a combination of nbn™ Fixed Line, Fixed Wireless and satellite services to meet our goal of connecting eight million premises and making access to fast broadband available to 12 million premises across Australia by 2020.

But our fixed wireless technology is one part of the nbn that I am particularly proud of.

A lot of the people who are signing up for the nbn™ Fixed Wireless service via their RSP have never had top-class broadband, and probably would have had difficulties in getting it in the near future had the nbn™ network not come along.

Of course, you’d expect me to sing the praises of the nbn™ Fixed Wireless technology.

But I have heard from a number of people who have recently moved to services over to the fixed wireless technology and I want to share with you some of their feedback.

Yolande Cave from Warwick in Queensland says her family are saving $30 a month just on their Internet bill, and finally getting decent service.*

I’m also pleased to report that the new fixed wireless service has also helped with their family relationships, as there are no longer any fights over who used all the data!

Chris Downes in South Gippsland has dubbed the nbn™ Fixed Wireless service a great leap forward.  He can run his business, communicate with friends and have much lower stress levels about going over his data limit.*

As an added bonus, when his grandkids come to stay they are very happy too.

Narelle Drage and her family come from Wimmera. She says that the fixed wireless service has made a huge difference to her family.

Fixed Wireless installation in progress.

Narelle is returning to complete her masters and she says she could not have done this without the nbn

Their TV reception out that way is shocking, so the service is having a much bigger impact on their life than they originally thought.*

And Lisa Darley, who lives near Orange in New South Wales is looking forward to potentially saving $1500 a month. Lisa and her husband run two businesses, a farm business and a business in Sydney.

She also does the marketing, website management and social media for a local charity. Because of the demand, she kept adding data packages to their broadband, which meant they were spending at least $1800 a month on broadband.*

These people are the reason we do what we do and I look forward to sharing some more real life stories with you in coming blogs.

Thank you to Better Internet for Regional, Rural and Remote Australia (BIRRR) and their membership for submitting their stories.

*nbn provides services to our wholesale customers (phone and internet providers). nbn™ wholesale speed tiers available to your phone and internet provider vary depending on the access technology in your area. Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network, depends on the nbn™ access network technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network). Speeds may be impacted by network congestion on nbn’s Fixed Wireless network, including during busy periods.
