Traffic Class 1

The important things you need to know when migrating business voice services to the nbn® network.

Introducing Traffic Class 1 (TC1) – Our default for business-grade voice services

We offer three wholesale traffic classes to service providers (TC1, TC2 and TC4), which they use to create products to sell directly to you.# Each traffic class has a different primary purpose;

TC1 is primarily used to support voice services, specifically Voice over IP (VoIP), and is designed to provide access to the following features:

  • A Committed Information Rate (CIR) at the wholesale level – designed to support voice communication quality.
  • Symmetrical wholesale download and upload speeds – designed to help make voice communication seamless.*
  • Appropriate wholesale bandwidth allocation – designed to make voice communication cost-effective.

Traffic Class 2 (TC2) is designed to accommodate many business-critical data services (including video conferencing), while Traffic Class 4 (TC4) is designed for general internet data (including residential-grade internet).*

With a wholesale TC1 product, your voice services are backed by steady, consistent wholesale bandwidth.* Ensure that your service provider is correctly matching your bandwidth requirements to the number of lines you have at each site.
Voice is a two-way, real-time service. TC1 is designed to provide the same wholesale download and upload speeds to your service provider for traffic both to and from your sites.*
Voice services have consistent data requirements, which means we can work with service providers to specify the bandwidth precisely, and according to the number of concurrent lines you have at each site.

Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn network, depends on the technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, signal quality, broadband plans and how your service provider designs its network). nbn is a provider of wholesale speeds to internet providers. nbn wholesale speed tiers available to your internet provider vary depending on the access technology in your area. business nbn is not available for nbn Fixed Wireless or Sky Muster satellite access network technologies.
