Get more out of your internet experience

Step 1. Check your usage particularly between 7pm and 11pm

When connecting to an nbn™ powered plan from an internet provider, it’s important you choose a speed based on your usage. The key is to think about your evening usage particularly between 7pm and 11pm when internet traffic is at its peak.

You need to talk to your internet provider about:

  • How many people will be online together during this time
  • What devices they’ll be using
  • What they will be using those devices for

Step 2. Select the right speed from your internet provider

Once you’ve checked your usage, get in touch with your internet provider to see which speed best suits your needs. Please note, not all speed tiers are available everywhere.*

Step 3. Connect - once you’re connected, remember to put your modem in an ideal place and check your set-up

The placement of your Wi-Fi router/modem, and the quality of your existing in-home cabling can help improve your online experience. Make sure you put your Wi-Fi router/modem in a central position, away from thick walls and furniture. Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn network, depends on the nbn network technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network). Speeds may be impacted by the number of concurrent users on nbn’s Fixed Wireless network, including during busy periods. Satellite users may experience latency.
