What's involved in the upgrade?

1. Check if your building is eligible and register online

Eligible buildings

If your building is eligible, and you’re an authorised representative for your entire building (via a Body Corporate or through ownership), you can submit a request for nbn to install full fibre in your building. Once registered, we will use the information provided to further assess your eligibility, and for any quotes required.

Ineligible buildings

If your building isn't eligible, you can still register your building for updates and we will let you know when your building becomes eligible.

2. Quote and agreement

If your building is eligible and you have already submitted a request, the nbn Sales team will be in contact to confirm the Build Quote and Terms and Conditions (Area Switch for Full Fibre Upgrade for Strata). This will need to be signed by the Authorised Representative.

Costs can vary depending on the complexity of the build and any additional requirements of the body corporate/owners committee.

3. Site Survey and Installation Plan

Once the Build Quote and Terms and Conditions (Area Switch for Full Fibre Upgrade for Strata) are agreed, an nbn approved construction partner will reach out to the designated Site contact (a designated contact person within your building) and arrange a suitable date to perform a site visit.

The approved construction partner will need access to common areas, individual units, and existing infrastructure to confirm the quote to upgrade your building to nbn full fibre.

The outcome will be an installation plan of the full fibre upgrade within the building.

The installation plan may take 2-6 weeks depending on the complexity.

4. Installation

Once the installation plan is agreed, an nbn approved construction partner will be engaged to start construction activities. The approved construction partner will contact the designated site contact to advise a suitable date/time to attend site and start construction.

5. Ready to Connect

Once physical construction is complete, nbn will conduct quality and safety checks of the cabling and equipment before activating the nbn equipment onsite. The amount of time needed for this activity will be dependent on the size of the building and the number of units/apartments.

Upon completion, an nbn representative will reach out to your building’s authorised representative to confirm residents can now place orders with their chosen internet provider to upgrade onto the fibre infrastructure.
